Simple Bolivia Travel DMC Joins Efforts to Care for Auquisamaña

As part of our ongoing commitment to more sustainable tourism, we took part in a cleanup and conservation activity at the Auquisamaña lagoon, joining a local initiative focused on protecting one of La Paz’s natural areas.

On Saturday, October 17, members of the Simple Bolivia Travel DMC team participated in a community workday at the Auquisamaña Municipal Protected Area, including its woodland and surrounding hills. The activity was organized by ALWA and Red O2 and brought together individuals and organizations around a shared goal: contributing to the care and protection of this natural environment.

Auquisamaña is one of the natural spaces that forms part of La Paz’s urban landscape and is home to a variety of plant and animal species. Its conservation is especially important in the face of threats such as wildfires, unplanned urban expansion, and other pressures that affect the regeneration of its ecosystems.

During the activity, participants carried out cleanup and maintenance work around the lagoon area, working together to support the protection and recovery of the site. Beyond the immediate task, initiatives like this also provide a valuable opportunity to better understand the challenges faced by urban natural areas and the importance of involving different sectors in their conservation.

For Simple Bolivia Travel DMC, moving toward more sustainable tourism also means looking beyond day-to-day operations. It means gaining a deeper understanding of the destinations where we work, supporting local initiatives, and continuing to incorporate lessons that can strengthen our practices as a tourism company.

The experience in Auquisamaña also reinforced an idea we consider essential: destinations are not defined only by their tourist attractions. Their ecosystems, communities, and natural spaces are part of the environments that welcome travelers and therefore deserve a responsible and thoughtful approach.

Our participation in this activity represents another step in a process we continue to build over time. We will keep looking for opportunities to learn, collaborate, and support initiatives that bring us closer to a more responsible way of operating in the destinations where we work.

Tourism that Connects, Conserves and Transforms.
