A one-and-a-half-hour drive along a fully paved road will take you to Tiwanaku, known as the “Cradle of American Civilization.” This archaeological site is among the oldest of the Andean cultures, and its remains are astonishing for their monumentality and the perfection of their construction and decorative techniques. You will visit the following highlights: Tiwanaku Museums and several ruins such as the Akapana Pyramid, Kalasasaya Temple, the Gate of the Sun, the Fraile and Ponce monoliths, Puma Punku, and the semi-subterranean temple.
You will also have the opportunity to observe local handicrafts: small carefully carved stones modeled after monoliths, Tiwanaku and Aymara amulets; as well as masterfully crafted pottery such as ceremonial vessels, incense burners, replicas of the Gate of the Sun, and more.
Includes: Private transportation La Paz–Tiwanaku–La Paz, bilingual guide (Spanish–English), entrance fees.
