Day 2- Salinas Grandes and Purmamarca

Early in the morning after breakfast, we’ll start our day by traveling through incredible landscapes. We’ll drive a section parallel to the route of the Train to the Clouds, through the Quebrada del Toro. We’ll continue our ascent until we reach an altitude of 4,080 meters above sea level, arriving at the town of San Antonio de los Cobres. There, we’ll pause for lunch and enjoy some of the town’s typical dishes.

Afterward, we’ll take Route 40 to the Salinas Grandes, right on the border between Salta and Jujuy. We’ll then descend the Cuesta de Lipán, where it’s common to spot condors in flight. Finally, we’ll arrive at the town of Purmamarca, at the foot of the famous Hill of Seven Colors, where we’ll spend the night.

Accommodation in Purmamarca — double or single occupancy. Meals included: Breakfast.

Day 3. Purmamarca

This is a free day in Purmamarca. We recommend visiting the charming town of Tilcara and exploring the famous Pucará de Tilcara, an archaeological site composed of numerous constructions built by the Tilcaras—a group of the Omaguacas people—at a strategic point in the Quebrada de Humahuaca.

Day 4. Hornocal Hill – Humahuaca

We’ll depart from Purmamarca and travel the 60 kilometers that separate us from the town of Humahuaca. From there, we’ll take Provincial Route 73 to the east, which leads us into the cultivated valleys of Coctaca. We’ll make a stop along the way to taste a traditional regional coca tea, then ascend to 4,200 meters above sea level, where we can enjoy panoramic views of the multicolored Cerro de la Serranía del Hornocal (Hornocal Hill). It’s a breathtaking landscape that allows you to understand the geography of the entire Humahuaca Gorge region. A unique attraction that will leave you speechless.

Day 5. The Hornaditas Community

We’ll depart by minibus from Humahuaca to the Quebrada de Sapagua, where a 60-minute hike awaits us. During the hike, we’ll be able to observe ancient rock art. From there, we’ll continue by minibus to the Hornaditas community, where we’ll have a shared experience with the local residents who open their doors to us. We’ll have the opportunity to help prepare a typical meal that we’ll then share, observe daily activities on the farm with animals or artisanal harvesting, or take a walk around the area. In the late afternoon, we’ll return to Humahuaca.

Day 6. Quebrada de Humahuaca – Salta

Early in the morning, we’ll pass by the historic Posta de Hornillos, a former colonial rest stop established in 1772, which served as a stagecoach station on the road to Potosí and later as a military barracks during the wars of independence. We’ll continue towards Huacalera, where the monolith marking the Tropic of Capricorn is located, offering views of the hill known as the “Pollera de la Colla.” We’ll visit the Uquía church, built in 1691, which houses a valuable collection of paintings of the Arcángeles Arcabuceros (Angels with Arquebuses), a unique example of Andean Baroque art. In the late afternoon, we’ll arrive back in the city of Salta.
